The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals involved in combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
